Director of Auxiliary Programs

Sophie is the Director of Auxiliary Programs at Miss Porter’s School. After earning a Bachelor of Arts with high honors in art and art history from Colgate University, Sophie began a 14-year career as a photojournalist for the United Nations (UN). In 2004, the UN sent her to Haiti, where she made her home until moving to Porter’s in 2012. Sophie has led innovative global and auxiliary initiatives at Miss Porter’s, including developing the Institute for Global Education, implementing the 11th grade Global Intensive program, launching a Global Studies Certificate diploma, creating and launching Porter’s Center for Global Leadership, and leading the growth of summer programs. Sophie loves traveling, reading, exercising, and exploring the great outdoors with her husband, son, and dog.

Emily Surprenant

Director of Summer Programs

Emily is the Director of Summer Programs at Miss Porter’s School, where she spends the year dreaming up and bringing to life joyful and meaningful summer experiences for campers of all ages. She oversees everything from curriculum and program design to staff training, family communication, and the day-to-day magic that keeps camp running. Her favorite parts of the job are seeing campers find the people, places, and experiences that make camp feel like theirs.

A proud Porter’s alum, Emily also works in the Teaching and Learning Center and teaches Introduction to Inquiry during the academic year. After Porter’s, she earned her B.A. from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, served in the Peace Corps, and earned her M.A. from George Washington University, where she is currently pursuing her doctorate in education. She lives in Farmington with her husband and son.

Leahanne Fenton

Leahanne Fenton

Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs

Leahanne Fenton is the Assistant Director of Auxiliary Programs at Miss Porter’s School. She holds an M.A. from Yale University and a B.A. from Colby College.

In her role, Leahanne works behind the scenes to bring Summer Programs and other auxiliary programs to life, coordinating the many logistics that help create a welcoming and well-run experience for campers, families, and program partners. With a background in education, she especially enjoys being part of programs that give young people opportunities to try something new, build confidence, and make meaningful connections.

Before joining Miss Porter’s, Leahanne taught high school social studies in New Hampshire before taking time away from the classroom to raise her two daughters. Thirteen years later, she returned to education at Miss Porter’s, where both of her daughters are now students. Outside of work, Leahanne enjoys reading, crafting, and spending time with her family.
